Description
Lerche Tissue Forceps
Lerche forceps are a 15 cm tissue pattern with 5:6 teeth. The many teeth spread the grip across the tip.
5:6 teeth
Five teeth meet six on the other side. So the Lerche forceps hold a wide strip of tissue.
Even pressure
Because the load spreads out, the tissue marks less. Meanwhile, the grip stays firm.
A handy length
At 15 cm, the forceps suit most surface work. Therefore they fit a general tray.
When to use them
Pick Lerche forceps when a single tooth would tear the tissue. Then use a 1:2 pattern for skin edges. Also, they pair well with Stone forceps. In addition, the Lerche pattern suits soft tissue where a single tooth would tear. Meanwhile, it pairs well with a finer forceps at the skin. So general trays often carry one pair. Also, the Lerche forceps help hold omentum and fatty tissue, which a sharp single tooth would tear. For example, a general tray might carry one pair beside the Stone forceps. Meanwhile, the 15 cm length keeps it light and easy to control.
Reprocessing Lerche forceps
Rinse between the Lerche teeth after each case. Then scrub the tip with a nylon brush and let the forceps dry. Finally, place them in a slotted tray.
