Description
T.C. Distal End Cutters, Safety Hold
A carbide distal end cutter snips off spare archwire flush behind the final bracket or molar tube. It cuts flush, so the end does not poke the cheek. The safety hold grips the cut piece, so it does not fall into the mouth. Our tungsten-carbide (T.C.) inserts keep the edge sharp for longer.
Five Options to Compare
- Mini, Extra-Long Offset Handles: Mini head with extra long, offset handles
- Mini, Long Handles: Mini head with long handles
- Mini: the compact head with standard handles
- Micro: the smallest head in the range
- Standard: the full size cutter for cutting wire in the mouth
Choosing Head and Handle
Start with access. A small head reaches further back, so Micro and Mini suit tight spaces. Next, think about reach and grip. Long or offset handles keep your hand further from the face. Then again, the Standard pattern is a solid all-round choice. Each option comes singly.
Wire Ratings
For the Mini and Micro options, the catalogue lists several maximum ranges. Together, they rate these cutters for a range of round and rectangular archwire up to 0.64 mm (.025”). Stay within that limit. Larger wire can chip the carbide.
The Safety Hold in Practice
Before you cut, seat the beaks flush against the tube. Then squeeze firmly in one motion. The hold keeps the offcut until you release it outside the mouth. Also, check the hold each week, because a weak grip defeats its purpose.
Keep the Carbide Sharp
Only cut archwire with this tool. Use a separate cutter for heavy lab wire. In addition, wipe the beaks after each case.
We make it to our own spec. Out of the packet it is non-sterile; however, cleaning and sterilisation make it fit for each new patient.
Every carbide distal end cutter earns three years against manufacturing defects, with no small print. Its stainless body meets ASTM F899. For steel ties, add the carbide pin and ligature cutter. See all wire cutters in our orthodontic tool category, and read our help topics for ordering.
