Description
Stille-Liston Bone Cutting Forceps
The Stille-Liston bone cutter is a heavy, double-action forceps for dense bone. Its compound joint multiplies hand force, so thick ribs and cortex cut cleanly.
Double action explained
A double-action design uses two pivots instead of one. As a result, each squeeze of the handles produces much more force at the jaws. That lets the surgeon cut firm bone without straining.
Sizes and shapes
It comes at 23 cm or 28 cm. Each length is available with straight or curved jaws. So there are four choices in total.
Where the Stille-Liston bone cutter helps
Thoracic surgeons use it for rib resection. Also, orthopedic surgeons use it for amputations and trimming large bone ends. It handles bone that would stall a lighter cutter.
Choosing a version
The 23 cm length suits most rib and limb work. However, the 28 cm length adds leverage and reach. Curved jaws help when the cut sits behind a curve.
When single action is not enough
A standard Liston can stall on thick cortex or a large rib. In that case, the compound joint of this cutter finishes the job. Consequently, thoracic and amputation trays often carry it.
Stille-Liston bone cutter options
- 23 cm, straight or curved
- 28 cm, straight or curved
- Double-action joint
- Ships non-sterile
Care of a compound joint
Flush the two pivots well, since they trap debris. After drying, lubricate each joint lightly. Then test the action for smooth, even closing.
