Description
Steinmann Trocar tip
This Steinmann pin trocar tip is a 4.0 mm pin with a three-sided trocar point. It drills through bone for skeletal traction and temporary fixation.
The trocar point
A trocar tip has three cutting faces that meet at a point. Therefore it starts easily and cuts its own path through cortex. Besides, that makes insertion quicker.
Four lengths
All versions are 4.0 mm in diameter. Choose 140, 160, 180 or 200 mm length. Longer pins suit wider limbs and traction bows.
Who uses a Steinmann pin trocar tip
Trauma surgeons use it for tibial and femoral traction. Also, it serves as a temporary fixation pin during reduction. External fixation setups may use it too.
Insertion tips
Drill slowly and irrigate to limit heat. Then check that both ends protrude enough for the traction bow. Cover the sharp ends after insertion.
A pinning pioneer
Fritz Steinmann introduced skeletal traction with pins. Consequently, the name became a standard term. Furthermore, these pins follow that design.
Choosing the length
Pick a pin long enough to clear both sides of the limb and the bow. Meanwhile, avoid excess length that could catch. Moreover, the four lengths make that choice easy.

Our pledge behind each pin
Our team in Atlanta looks over every pin with care before dispatch. If each Steinmann pin turns up with an assembly fault, you have three years against manufacturing defects. Larger surgical teams hold a second pin for back-to-back cases. For another approach, browse the Steinmann clip. The FAQ page clears up typical order queries. Searching for a bulk price?
