Sinus Membrane Elevators

A sinus membrane elevator lifts the Schneiderian membrane away from the sinus floor once a lateral window is open. The membrane is thin, so each tip must follow the bone without piercing the lining. This page lists seven patterns, letting you build a set that reaches every corner of the cavity.

The Numbered Patterns

Sinus-1, Sinus-2, Sinus-4, Sinus-5 and Sinus-6 are the numbered tips in our supplier catalogue. The catalogue names them but does not describe each angle in writing. Therefore, please compare the working ends in the photos. In general, a sinus kit moves from tips that free the membrane at the window edge to tips that reach the floor and the medial wall.

Sinus Freer and Sinus Freer, Curved

The two Freer patterns borrow the slim, flat blade of a classic Freer elevator. The Sinus Freer is the straight version, handy for starting the release right at the window margin. The Sinus Freer, Curved, follows the contour of the bone further in. So, the pair often opens the lift before the numbered tips take over.

Building a Practical Set

Few surgeons need all seven on day one. Instead, start with one Freer pattern and two or three numbered tips, then add more as your cases demand. When the anatomy is complex, for example with septa or a narrow sinus, the extra angles become worth having.

Before a sinus tip leaves Atlanta, someone on our United States staff checks its edges under a loupe. Each one arrives non-sterile; clean the fine tips gently and run them through a sterilization cycle first. Also, each of the seven patterns enjoys sinus kit coverage of three years against manufacturing defects, steel and tip finish included.
