Description
Sequestrum Forceps
These sequestrum forceps remove dead bone fragments during bone infection surgery. They come at 20 cm, in a straight or a curved form.
Straight or curved
Straight jaws reach fragments directly ahead. Meanwhile, curved jaws reach around corners in irregular cavities. Choose the shape that suits the cavity.
Why removal matters
Dead bone harbors bacteria and blocks healing. Therefore every fragment must come out. A firm grasper makes that work faster.
Who uses sequestrum forceps
Orthopedic surgeons use it in osteomyelitis cases. Also, trauma surgeons clear debris from open fractures. Foot and ankle teams use it in diabetic bone infection too.
Working method
Locate each fragment, grasp it firmly and rock it free. Then lift it out without tearing surrounding tissue. Repeat until the cavity is clean.
Size
At 20 cm, the forceps reaches most cavities. However, very deep cavities may need the longer Van Buren pattern. Consequently, many sets carry both.
Sequestrum forceps options
- Length 20 cm
- Straight version for direct reach
- Curved version for irregular cavities
- Supplied non-sterile
Care
Clean contaminated instruments according to your protocol. Scrub the jaws and joint, then dry fully. Lubricate the joint before sterilization.
Purchase notes
Each forceps carries full cover spanning three years against manufacturing defects without a fee. Prior to dispatch, our team in Atlanta goes over every forceps in detail. We are glad to suggest an option for new trays. Smaller departments order a second forceps in case one is out for service. Companion designs feature in the orthopedic instrument list. To round out the tray, look at the Van Buren pattern. Our customer FAQ answers typical order queries. For a primer on instrument alloys, review ASTM F899.
