Description
Van Buren Sequestrum Forceps
Van Buren sequestrum forceps grasp and remove dead bone fragments, called sequestra. They are a standard tool in the surgical treatment of bone infection.
What a sequestrum is
In chronic bone infection, pieces of bone can lose their blood supply and die. These pieces must come out for healing to begin. Therefore surgeons need a strong, toothed grasper to remove them.
Strong jaws
The jaws grip firmly on hard, irregular fragments. As a result, the surgeon can pull pieces free from scar and granulation tissue. Also, the 23 cm length reaches into deep cavities.
Who uses Van Buren sequestrum forceps
Orthopedic surgeons use them in osteomyelitis surgery. Also, trauma surgeons use them to clear debris from open fractures. They suit revision of infected implants too.
Clearing a cavity
Remove large fragments first, then smaller ones. Afterward, a curette cleans the walls. Finally, irrigation flushes the cavity.
A long reach
Infected cavities can run deep along a bone. Consequently, the 23 cm length helps reach the far end. Shorter forceps may not get there.

Why we stand behind the forceps
Each forceps receives a thorough check at our Atlanta base prior to packing. Clinics receive three years against manufacturing defects across the Van Buren forceps from the ship date. Open our main orthopedic section too. For payment questions, visit the FAQ page. Looking for stock for a new tray? Write to us and we will check. Busy units stock a second forceps to avoid delays. Some trays also hold our sequestrum forceps. For a summary of the steel in surgical tools, read ASTM F899.
