Description
Screw Driver for Distraction Screws
This screw driver for distraction screws seats the screws that a spinal distractor then pushes against. It measures 20 cm, so the surgeon can reach the vertebral body through a narrow opening.
A dedicated driver
Distraction screws need a driver that fits their head closely. Therefore, most spine sets keep one driver just for this job. A matched tool turns the screw in cleanly and also backs it out at the end of the case.
Size and reach
We list one size, 20 cm overall. That length gives room for the hand above the wound while the tip works deep inside it. If you need a shaft or tip dimension, email us for a measured figure.
Its place in a distraction set
First, the surgeon drills a pilot hole with the matching twist drill. Next, the screws drives a screw into each vertebra. Then the distractor slides over the screw heads and spreads the space. Finally, the driver removes the screws once the work is done.
Checking compatibility
Screw systems differ between makers, so a driver must fit your screws exactly. Before ordering, compare the screw head you use with our photos. Better still, send us a picture of your screw and we can confirm the fit.
Caring for your screw driver
Flush the tip right after use, because bone dust packs into the drive end quickly. Then brush along the whole shaft with warm water and detergent. Rinse, dry completely and sterilize it together with the rest of the distraction set.
