Description
Distraction Screw
This Caspar distraction screw belongs to the Caspar cervical distractor. Surgeons place one screw in each vertebral body, then fit the distractor over them to open the disc space.
How the screws work
During anterior cervical surgery, the surgeon needs room at the disc space. So two screws go into the vertebrae above and below. The distractor then slides over them and spreads the segment apart.
Three screw sizes
We list three sizes: 14 mm x 68 mm, 16 mm x 70 mm and 18 mm x 72 mm. The first figure grows with the second, so each option suits a different anatomy. Please contact us if you need thread details.
Part of the Caspar system
The Caspar distraction screw works with several related parts. For example, a drill guide and twist drill prepare the hole, and a screwdriver places the screw. In short, the screw links the spine to the distractor.
Choosing a size
Surgeons choose the size from the depth of the vertebral body in each case. Therefore, many teams stock all three sizes on the tray. That way, they can switch during surgery without waiting.
Caring for your Caspar distraction screw
Clean the threads with a small brush while they are still wet. Then rinse and dry the screw fully. Check the threads and tip for wear before each sterilization cycle.
