The scalpel handle #7 is a slim, pencil-like handle for the small blade range, #10 to #15. Its narrow body gives fine control in deep or delicate work.

Why a slim handle

A #3 handle is broad and flat. By contrast, the #7 tapers to a narrow shaft, so it holds like a pen. As a result, surgeons often reach for it in plastic, ophthalmic and neurological procedures.

Picking a length

The Fig.7 measures 16.5 cm for extra reach. Meanwhile the #7K comes in 13 cm and 15 cm, which keep the balance close to the hand. All three take the same blades.

Care of the scalpel handle #7

Take the blade off with a blade remover. Next, clean the fitting with a small brush, rinse, dry and check the shaft is straight before sterilizing it.

Where the #7 earns its place

Surgeons often choose the #7 for skin lesion work, eyelid surgery and small flaps. Its slim shaft lets the hand rest close to the incision, and the fingertips steer the blade. For long skin incisions, however, a broader #3 or #4 usually feels steadier. Many trays therefore hold both patterns.
