Description
Langenbeck Amputating Knife
The Langenbeck amputating knife is a compact amputation knife at 13 cm. It suits the smaller limb and digit work where a long Liston or Catlin knife would be unwieldy.
A short amputation knife
Long amputating knives cut flaps on large limbs. By contrast, this shorter pattern gives close control for fingers, toes and small flaps. Therefore it sits well beside a longer knife in an amputation set.
Supplied with blade
Our listing carries the With Blade configuration, so the knife arrives ready for use. The earlier spelling on this page read Langenbach, and we corrected it to the proper eponym, Langenbeck.
Care of the Langenbeck amputating knife
Wash the knife soon after the procedure, using a pH neutral cleaner. Afterward, dry it fully and guard the edge in storage.
Pairing it with a longer knife
A short knife handles small flaps and digits well. Meanwhile, a long Liston or Collin knife covers the larger limbs. For that reason, an amputation set usually holds one of each. Also, a small bone saw and bone cutting forceps complete the basic set for most cases. In addition, keep the knife in its own slot in the set. That way, its short blade stays easy to find among the longer knives. Also, check its edge before every use, since small flaps need a clean cut.
