Satinsky Vena-Cava Forceps

The Satinsky vena cava clamp partially occludes the vena cava or the atrium during cardiac procedures. That way, blood keeps moving past the jaws while you sew on the held portion of wall.

Satinsky vena cava clamp: three figures, two lengths

Figures 1 and 2 both measure 26 cm, which gives plenty of reach in an adult chest. By contrast, Figure 3 comes as a smaller 15 cm version. So you can match the forceps to the depth of each field.

Why partial occlusion matters

A side-biting grip takes hold of only part of the vessel wall. As a result, venous return continues while the team repairs the isolated edge. Surgeons often reach for it when closing a caval or atrial opening.

When Figure 3 makes sense

The 15 cm Figure 3 suits smaller patients and shallow openings. Meanwhile, its shorter body keeps your hand close to the suture line. Then the two 26 cm figures cover deeper adult anatomy.

Each figure has its own listing, so order by figure number rather than length alone. In addition, many cardiac sets hold one long and one short Satinsky vena cava clamp. That way, the scrub nurse never has to hunt for the right reach.

Cleaning Satinsky vena cava clamp

Open the jaws fully before rinsing blood away from the tips. Next, run the forceps through an ultrasonic cycle while it stays unlocked. Finally, dry every figure and give each one its own slot in the tray.
