Roeder Towel Forceps
The Roeder towel forceps grip drapes with sharp points that end in small stops. The stops limit how deep the points pass, which gives a secure hold without bunching the drape.
Point stops
A small ball or shoulder sits behind each point. Consequently, the points pass through the drape only so far, and the layers stay flat between them.
Lengths of the Roeder towel forceps
Two sizes are available, 13 and 15 cm, with the shorter one suiting medium fields. Meanwhile, the 15 cm size suits heavier drapes on larger cases.
A secure, flat hold
Because the stops prevent over-closure, the drape does not crease around the clip. As a result, the window around the incision stays square and tidy.
Typical uses
General, gynaecological and orthopaedic teams use them on drape corners. They also hold heavier cables that might pull a lighter clip loose.
Technique
Gather a small fold and close until the stops meet the drape. Then let the ratchet lock, and check the hold with a light tug.
Safety near skin
The stops also reduce the risk of deep skin injury if skin is caught by mistake. Even so, keep skin out of the jaws unless fixation is intended.
