Ricard Retractor

The Ricard retractor is a self-retaining abdominal retractor that holds a wide incision open without an assistant. Choose a complete set with blades, or buy the spreader alone.

Two complete sets

The first set pairs 60 x 80 mm side blades, a 55 x 70 mm middle blade and a 30 cm spread. By contrast, the second set carries 72 x 85 mm side blades and an 80 x 90 mm middle blade. It opens to 28 cm.

Side and middle blades

Side blades pull the wound edges apart as the frame opens. Meanwhile, the middle blade lifts one end of the incision out of the way. So the field stays open on three sides.

Spreader only

Already own Ricard blades? Then the spreader alone may cover your needs. Also, a spare frame lets you run two trays on the same day.

Picking a size

Deeper patients usually call for the larger 72 x 85 mm side blades. However, the 60 x 80 mm set opens a little wider, at 30 cm. Therefore, weigh blade depth against spread when you choose a Ricard retractor.

Reprocessing Ricard retractor

Unmount all three Ricard blades ahead of washing, so every joint gets rinsed. Next, scrub the spreader and each blade slot with a soft brush. Finally, dry every part fully and store the blades beside their frame.
