Reichert Epiglottis Retractor

The Reichert epiglottis retractor lifts the epiglottis out of the way. ENT surgeons use it to expose the larynx during throat procedures.

Lifting the epiglottis

The epiglottis can hang over the entrance to the larynx. So the surgeon hooks it forward with this retractor. The larynx then comes into view for examination or treatment.

A 23 cm length

The Reichert pattern we carry measures 23 cm. That length reaches past the base of the tongue, so the grip stays comfortable. Ask us for blade dimensions if you need them.

In laryngeal procedures

Surgeons may pair it with laryngeal forceps or a mirror. For example, one hand holds the epiglottis back while the other works. Also, it can help during examination of the vallecula, which sits just in front of the epiglottis.

Adding it to a set

If your laryngeal tray has no way to lift the epiglottis, then the Reichert pattern fills that need. However, check it alongside your mirrors and forceps first. If you are unsure, send us a list of your current laryngeal tools and we will help.

Caring for your Reichert retractor

Rinse the working end straight after use. Next, wash the whole retractor with a soft brush. Then dry the Reichert epiglottis retractor fully and sterilize it.
