Putti Bone Rasp

Description

Putti Bone Rasp

The Putti bone rasp is a toothed file for smoothing and shaping bone. It comes at 28 cm and 30 cm and tidies rough edges after a cut.

Why rasp bone

A saw or osteotome often leaves sharp edges and ridges. A rasp files these down. As a result, the bone end becomes smooth and less likely to irritate soft tissue.

Two lengths

The 28 cm version suits most limb work. Meanwhile, the 30 cm version adds a little reach for deep surfaces. Both have the same filing surface.

Who uses the Putti bone rasp

Orthopedic surgeons use it after amputations and osteotomies. It also helps shape bone around joints. Trauma surgeons may use it to tidy fracture ends.

Technique

Use long, even strokes in one direction. Then clear the teeth of bone dust often. Check the result by touch as well as by sight.

Rasp or file

A bone rasp removes material faster than a fine file. However, it leaves a slightly rougher finish. Therefore some surgeons follow the rasp with a finer instrument.

Cleaning a rasp

Bone dust packs into the teeth, so brush them hard after use. Then rinse and dry fully. Inspect the teeth for wear.

After you order

We warrant the Putti pattern for three years against manufacturing defects by default. An Atlanta colleague studies this rasp in person before shipment.
