Rasp + Tamper

This rasp and tamper combines two tasks in one compact instrument. One feature shapes small bone holes, and the other packs graft material firmly into place.

Two jobs, one tool

A rasp roughens and shapes bone so a graft sits well. Then a tamper presses the graft down so it fills the space. Having both on one instrument saves time and tray space.

Seven diameters

Choose 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 10 mm. The small sizes suit hand and foot work. Meanwhile, the larger ones handle bigger defects and tunnels.

Who uses a rasp and tamper

Orthopedic, hand and foot surgeons use it during small joint fusions and graft procedures. It also helps when packing bone into drill holes. Moreover, some sports surgeons use it for tunnel preparation.

Matching the size

Pick a diameter just under the size of the hole. Then the tamper fits inside and presses the graft evenly. If in doubt, start small and step up.

Cleaning between uses

Graft material and bone dust collect in the rasp teeth. Consequently, rinse the instrument during long cases. That keeps the teeth cutting cleanly.

Cleaning the rasp

Rasp teeth trap bone dust, so brush them firmly after use. Then rinse and dry the whole instrument. Check the teeth for damage at each service.
