Description
Probe UNC 15
Full-mouth periodontal charting needs a probe that reads deep pockets in one pass. The UNC 15 probe carries millimetre markings along its working end. So a clinician can record depths beyond 10 mm without estimating. Intrace USA, an Atlanta distributor, stocks three versions and checks each one by hand in the United States.
Reading a 15 mm Scale
A UNC 15 is marked at every millimetre. That makes it a common choice when recession and attachment levels need precise numbers. On the color versions, banding also helps the eye find its place quickly. As a result, the hygienist can call out numbers without counting each line. The long scale suits periodontal maintenance patients with deeper sites.
Standard, Color 15/5B and Color 15/11/5B 6EZ
- Standard (1-15mm): the classic marked probe covering 1 to 15 mm.
- Color UNC 15/5B (1-11.5mm): a color-coded version that the catalogue lists with a 1 to 11.5 mm range.
- Color UNC15/11/5B 6EZ: a second color-coded catalogue pattern; compare the photos to see its banding.
First, choose Standard if your team already reads plain markings with ease. Otherwise, a color version can speed up charting for newer staff. When in doubt, order one of each and let the hygienists decide.
Keeping the Markings Legible
Markings fade when abrasive pastes or harsh chemistry wear the surface. So clean the probe with a soft brush, and skip scouring pads. Each probe leaves our shelf non-sterile. Finish the wash and steam steps of your protocol before it enters the mouth. Should a factory fault show up, your charting probe has protection lasting three years against manufacturing defects.
The probe steel meets ASTM F899. Browse more charting tools under our diagnostic and periodontal category, keep a Williams periodontal probe alongside for a different marking pattern, or see our frequently asked questions.
