Description
Price-Thomas Bronchus Forceps
The Price-Thomas bronchus clamp controls the bronchus while surgeons resect lung tissue. Lengths of 22 cm and 23 cm give reach toward the hilum.
Price-Thomas bronchus clamp: controlling the airway
During lobectomy, the surgeon must secure the bronchus before dividing it. So the clamp closes across the airway and holds steady. Next, the team closes the stump with sutures or staples.
Two lengths
The 22 cm size suits an average adult chest and a standard incision. Meanwhile, the 23 cm version adds a little reach for deeper anatomy. Also, the one-centimeter step lets surgeons fine-tune fit.
Keeping the field clear
A long instrument keeps fingers well away from the hilum. Because of that, the surgeon keeps a clear view. Plus, assistants have space to retract lung tissue without bumping the surgeon.
How it fits a thoracic tray
Most lung trays hold at least one bronchus clamp. For example, a team may keep a Price-Thomas bronchus clamp in each length. However, others pair it with a Semb so surgeons can choose their preferred pattern.
Cleaning Price-Thomas bronchus clamp
Wipe mucus and blood from the jaws during the case where practical. After surgery, clean and inspect the tips closely for wear or misalignment. Then dry the clamp and lay it in a long tray to prevent bending.
