Pratt Uterine Dilator

The Pratt uterine dilator opens the cervical canal gradually with a long, tapered tip. Each piece has two ends of different sizes, and we sell every size singly.

Eight sizes to choose from

Sizes run Fig 13/15, 17/19, 21/23, 25/27, 29/31, 33/35, 37/39 and 41/43. In millimeters, that spans 4.5/5.0 mm up to 13.6/14.3 mm. Therefore, singles let you fill gaps in a set or stock extra small sizes.

The gradual taper

A slender tip leads the way into the canal. Then the diameter increases slowly along the taper, which spreads the force of dilation. Therefore, many surgeons choose this pattern for a gentle, stepwise opening.

Reading the Fig number

Fig numbers use the French scale common in the dilator trade. However, we also list each size in millimeters for easy comparison. For example, Fig 25/27 falls near the middle of the range.

Singles or a full set

Buy a single Pratt uterine dilator when one size in your sequence wears out or disappears. Alternatively, order all eight together in a canvas case. That way, a new tray starts with the complete sequence.

Reprocessing Pratt uterine dilator

Wipe each dilator clean at the point of use, then rinse it in running water. Next, inspect both ends under good light for scratches or bends. Finally, dry it and lay it flat so the tapered tips stay straight.
