Description
Potts Atrauma Cardiovascular Coarctation Forceps
The Potts coarctation clamp controls the aorta during repair of a coarctation. It comes in 21 and 22 cm lengths and two materials.
Potts coarctation clamp: coarctation repair
Surgeons place a clamp on each side of the narrowed aortic segment. So they can remove or widen that segment in a still field. Meanwhile, the atraumatic jaws protect the aortic tissue they hold.
Two lengths
The 21 cm and 22 cm sizes both reach comfortably into the left chest. Also, the small difference lets you fine-tune reach to patient size. Pick the one that suits your approach.
Material choice
Stainless steel suits most trays and matches other clamps. Alternatively, tungsten carbide provides a harder option for surgeons who ask for it. Both forms keep the same shape and purpose.
Pediatric and adult use
Coarctation often appears in childhood, yet some patients reach surgery as adults. In that case, the Potts coarctation clamp serves both groups. Plus, the two lengths help match the size of the chest.
Looking after Potts coarctation clamp
Flush the jaws with water the moment the clamp leaves the field. Then process it with the jaws parted and inspect the tips closely. Dry it well and keep it in a padded slot away from heavier retractors.
