This placenta pan gives the birth team a clean place to receive the placenta after delivery. It then holds the tissue while the midwife or doctor checks it.

Receiving the placenta

After the baby arrives, the placenta follows in the third stage of labor. So a midwife or obstetrician guides it straight into the pan. That way, fluid and tissue stay contained rather than reaching the floor.

Checking for completeness

Clinicians examine the placenta and membranes to confirm nothing remains in the uterus. Because the basin keeps everything in one place, they can turn the tissue and inspect both surfaces. Also, the pan helps when a specimen goes to pathology.

Stainless steel stands up to repeated washing and sterilization. In addition, it does not absorb fluids the way some plastics can. Then the basin goes back on the delivery trolley, ready for the next birth.

Empty the pan and rinse it with cool water before blood dries on the steel. Next, wash it with a neutral detergent, rinse well and dry it completely. Finally, stack it in a clean, dry spot so the rim stays free of dents.
