Description
Collin Umbilical Cord Clamp
The Collin umbilical cord clamp closes off the cord after a baby arrives. It comes in reusable stainless steel and measures about 9 cm.
Clamping after birth
Once the baby arrives, the midwife places clamps on the cord before cutting between them. So this clamp holds the cord firmly on either the placental or the baby’s side. Then the team can divide the cord cleanly with scissors.
Reusable stainless steel
Unlike single-use plastic clamps, this one goes back through cleaning and sterilization. As a result, a unit can keep a stock for teaching, emergencies or low-resource settings. Also, stainless steel resists corrosion with regular care.
Size and handling
At about 9 cm, the clamp sits comfortably in one hand. Because it stays compact, it fits easily on a delivery tray. Meanwhile, a few spares take up little room in a drawer.
Collin or Kane
Both are reusable metal cord clamps for the same task. However, the Collin umbilical cord clamp runs about 9 cm, a little longer than the 8.5 cm Kane. So choose by the length your midwives prefer.
Cleaning Collin umbilical cord clamp
Open the clamp and rinse off blood before it dries. Next, clean the jaws with a soft brush, paying attention to any crevices. Finally, dry it fully and sterilize it in the open position.
