Description
Olivecrona Bone Rongeur Forceps
The Olivecrona bone rongeur nibbles away bone during neurosurgery. Surgeons use it to enlarge openings and smooth bone edges in the skull and spine.
A controlled bite
Instead of cutting a large block, the rongeur removes bone a little at a time. So the surgeon keeps fine control near dura and vessels. This makes it a staple of cranial sets.
Length
We offer the Olivecrona pattern at 20 cm. Also, that length suits most cranial openings and moderate spinal depths. For jaw measurements, send us a note and we will reply with details.
Common uses
For example, surgeons often enlarge a burr hole with it or trim the edge of a craniotomy. They also use it to remove bone near the posterior fossa. Then they smooth the edge with a smaller tool if needed.
Choosing between rongeurs
Many trays hold rongeurs of several lengths. For instance, you might keep an 18 cm Mayfield and this 20 cm Olivecrona together. That way you cover both shallow and slightly deeper work.
Caring for your Olivecrona bone rongeur
Flush bone chips out from between the jaws after use. Then work a nylon brush through the hinge under running water. Dry it completely, oil the hinge and sterilize it on your usual cycle.

Ordering from us
Our three-year warranty protects this rongeur against defects in workmanship. Every unit passes through our Atlanta office, where someone inspects it by hand. Find help on the FAQs page. For surgical steel, we cite ASTM F899. If you need a shorter model, see the Mayfield bone rongeur. You can then visit the wider neurosurgery section.
For professional use only. Before you order, read the instrument care guide on image variation and nickel in the metal. The return policy then lists the steps if you need it.
