Description
Heifetz Tumor Forceps, Bayonet-Shaped
With Heifetz tumor forceps, a neurosurgeon takes hold of tumor tissue and draws it out during cranial operations. Thanks to the bayonet bend, the operating hand sits off to one side of the microscope’s view.
Why the bayonet shape matters
Microneurosurgery depends on a clear view down a narrow opening. So the offset in a bayonet forceps moves the hand to one side while the tips stay on the target. As a result, the surgeon sees the jaws and the tissue at the same time.
Jaw style and tip size
We list four versions, all 23 cm long. First, pick the jaw style: serrated, or tumor and tissue grasping. Next, choose a 3 mm or 5 mm tip. The smaller tip takes fine bites, while the larger one removes more tissue with each pass.
How teams use them
Surgeons often reduce a tumor piece by piece, taking small bites from the center outward. For instance, a 5 mm tip may debulk the core, then a 3 mm tip may work closer to the edges. Suction and dissectors usually work alongside the forceps.
Picking your version
If you already own one jaw style, the other adds flexibility for different tissue. Also, consider holding both tip sizes, because tumor consistency varies widely. Tell us which forceps sit in your current set and we can suggest what fills the gap.
Caring for your Heifetz tumor forceps
Open the jaws and flush them right after use, since tumor tissue clings between them. Then brush the tips and the joint area with a soft brush. After that, dry the forceps fully, check that the tips meet cleanly, and sterilize them.
