Description
Ochsenbein Periodontal Instruments
The Ochsenbein name is closely tied to periodontal bone surgery. Our ochsenbein periodontal instrument comes in the two figures our supplier catalogue shows, Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. They open the catalogue’s periodontal instruments page, ahead of the Gardner and Wakefield patterns. Each figure is sold as a single instrument.
Recontouring Bone Near the Root
During osseous surgery, the periodontist reshapes bone around the tooth after the flap is reflected. Rotary burs can do part of this job. Near the root surface, however, many clinicians prefer the tactile control of a hand instrument. That is where an Ochsenbein pattern earns its place on the tray.
Deciding on Fig. 1 or Fig. 2
The catalogue identifies each figure by number and name only. Because no measurements are listed, the product photos are your guide. Next, study the shape and angle of both working ends. Then pick the one that suits your usual approach, or buy the pair for full flexibility.
Procedures That Call for It
Typical uses include crown lengthening, osseous resective surgery and removing small ledges of bone near furcations. In addition, some surgeons use it to refine bone margins during implant site preparation. For broader reductions, though, a larger chisel or bur may still come first.
How We Prepare Each Figure
An inspector at our United States location looks over each Ochsenbein figure individually. It is shipped non-sterile, so clean and sterilize it before reaching the operatory. Keep the working ends protected in a cassette, because contact with other metal tools can dull them. We stand behind both figures for three years against manufacturing defects.
Ochsenbein steel adheres to ASTM F899. Browse similar tools in diagnostic, periodontal and restorative instruments. To complete an osseous surgery setup, add Gardner periodontal instruments, and see the FAQs for order support.
Designed for use by trained periodontists and dental surgeons. Information on sterilizing your instruments and on how orders ship is available online.
