Obwegeser Ramus Retractor
The Obwegeser ramus retractor holds tissue along the ascending ramus during posterior mandibular surgery. Its blade measures 72 x 11 mm on a 220 mm instrument. Each retractor is examined by hand at our facility in the United States, then shipped from Atlanta.
Reading the 72 x 11 mm Blade
Two numbers define the blade. The 72 mm figure gives its length, and 11 mm gives its width. So the blade reaches well up the ramus while staying narrow enough for a limited opening. The catalogue lists only this one size.
Why 220 mm Overall
Reach matters at the back of the mouth. At 220 mm, the handle leaves room for the assistant’s hand outside the lips. Consequently, the surgeon keeps a clear line of sight to the site. The long lever also helps hold retraction steady through a lengthy step. Note, though, that it may feel long for anterior work.
Typical Ramus Cases
Clinicians reach for this pattern when they harvest bone from the ramus or expose the posterior mandible. For example, it keeps the cheek and flap clear of the bur during a ramus graft. It also serves third molar surgery that needs wide access.
Long-Term Backing
The stainless steel blade holds its shape under steady load in normal use. In addition, should a production fault ever show up, our cover runs three years against manufacturing defects from your delivery date.
Steel for this retractor follows the ASTM F899 specification. Browse comparable patterns in our Surgical Retractors category. For a different blade profile in the same region, see the Misch Ramus Retractor. Have a question first? Check the FAQs.
To be used only by trained oral surgeons and dental professionals. The retractor ships non-sterile, so complete cleaning and a validated sterilization cycle before surgery, per our care and sterilization page. See shipping and delivery for how orders travel.
