Description
Obwegeser Periosteal Elevator
The Obwegeser periosteal elevator lifts periosteum from the facial bones. Maxillofacial surgeons use it to free soft tissue before a bone cut or plate.
Lifting the periosteum
The blade slips under the periosteum and peels it from the bone. Therefore the surgeon keeps the layer intact while exposing the surface. That step comes before most osteotomies of the jaw.
Lengths and blades
We offer lengths of 18 cm, 20 cm and 23 cm. In addition, each length comes with a 5, 6, 7, 9 or 11 mm blade. That gives 15 possible combinations.
How it fits the Obwegeser set
This elevator works hand in hand with Obwegeser retractors. For instance, the elevator frees the tissue and the retractor then holds it. The same tray might also carry awls and osteotomes.
Building a useful selection
First, decide which lengths match your approach. Then choose a narrow and a wide blade so you can move from fine to broad work. Contact us if you want help planning a set.
Caring for your Obwegeser periosteal elevator
Clean the blade as soon as the case ends, while tissue is still soft. Next, brush along the edge and check it for damage. Finally, dry the elevator and store the blade away from harder steel.
