Description
Nicola Raspatory
The Nicola raspatory lifts periosteum and soft tissue off bone. Surgeons use it in cranial and spinal procedures to prepare a clean bony surface.
A tool for clearing bone
Before drilling or cutting, the surgeon needs bare bone. So the raspatory edge goes under the periosteum and pushes it back. As a result, soft tissue comes away in a single layer.
One practical length
We sell the raspatory at 20 cm. That length reaches into most cranial and spinal wounds with good control. For blade dimensions, please ask us and we will measure one.
How it fits a case
Surgeons often use it early, straight after the incision and before retractors go in. Then it may return later to clear bone edges for closure. Also, it helps in areas where a broad elevator will not fit.
Choosing among raspatories
Raspatories vary in width and profile, so most trays hold more than one. For example, you might pair the Nicola with a wide Martin-Hoen blade. Tell us what you use today, and we will suggest a companion.
Caring for your Nicola raspatory
Clear bone dust and tissue from the edge soon after use. Next, soak and scrub it with a gentle neutral cleaner. Rinse thoroughly, dry, and sterilize it following your protocol.
