The Murdock eye speculum is a 5 cm lid holder in a compact frame. It gives clear access for small patients and short procedures. Because the frame is modest, it leaves room around the eye for your hands and tools.

A compact 5 cm option

At 5 cm, the Murdock sits between our smallest infant specula and the 7 cm adult frames. That makes it handy for older children and adults with small lid openings. Also check the photo to compare its arms with the others.

Gentle on the globe

Any speculum can press on the eye if you spread it too far. With the Murdock, open just enough for the view you need. Then watch the lids and the patient’s comfort as you work.

When the Murdock is a good fit

Consider it when:

• The lid opening is on the small side
• The case is short and needs fast setup
• A larger frame would crowd the field

The Cook also comes in 5 cm, with child and adult versions. The Murdock, however, offers a single 5 cm frame. So pick the Murdock if you want one simple size on the tray.

Murdock care between cases

After each use, rinse the frame, brush any bend or joint and dry it. Before you pack it, check that the arms close evenly. Small checks like this keep the speculum working for a long time.

Murdock specula travel unsterile; wash and sterilize the Murdock frame, and it serves again on later lists. Murdock steel meets ASTM F899.
