Description

Molt Periodontal Instruments

The Molt name is best known among oral surgeons for periosteal work, where tissue must be lifted cleanly off bone. This Molt periodontal instrument comes in three catalogue figures, M7, M8 and M9. All three are stainless steel and sit in the periodontal section of our supplier catalogue. The right figure depends on the working end you prefer and the sites you treat most.

Comparing M7, M8 and M9

The catalogue labels the three versions only by figure:

  • M9, the figure most clinicians associate with the Molt name
  • M8, a neighbouring figure in the same series
  • M7, the third pattern in the group

Because no dimensions are printed for these figures, compare the three product photos closely. Look at the width and curve of each working end. Then match them to the instrument you are replacing.

Reflecting a Flap With a Molt

After the incision, the clinician slides the working end under the papilla. Next, short sweeping strokes keep the instrument against bone, so the periosteum lifts in one layer. Meanwhile, the other hand or an assistant supports the flap. Gentle, steady pressure works better than levering.

Choosing More Than One Figure

Some surgeons keep the M9 for general reflection and another figure for tight anterior sites. Others standardise on one figure across all trays. Either approach works, so long as every operatory stocks the same choices. That way, assistants never search for the right Molt mid-procedure.

Quality Steps Before Dispatch

Each Molt is reviewed in the United States for working-end symmetry and handle finish. We ship it non-sterile, which means it must be cleaned and autoclaved before reaching a patient. Our Molt guarantee runs three years against manufacturing defects in material or workmanship.

Consult the ASTM F899 materials page, explore the maxillofacial surgery range, and look at our Molt periosteal elevators for related patterns. Ordering help is collected in our FAQ centre.

Molt instruments are for trained oral and periodontal surgeons; please follow our autoclave and care instructions and see delivery options.
