Description
Mod. Bonn Eye Irrigating Cannula
The modified Bonn eye irrigating cannula is a versatile rinsing tool with two builds: delicate and standard. Both attach to a syringe or a line. The choice depends on how fine a tip and how firm a shaft you want.
Delicate or standard: how to pick
The delicate build has a slimmer tip and a lighter feel. So it suits side ports, fine flow and work near thin tissue. In contrast, the standard build has a sturdier shaft that resists flex. That makes it better for general rinsing and for users with a firmer hand. Configurations at a glance:
- Configuration: delicate
- Configuration: standard
- Syringe or line hub on both
- Steel body for repeat reprocessing
Common jobs for a Bonn irrigator
Surgeons use irrigating cannulas to keep the chamber formed, to wash away blood or viscoelastic, and to rinse the ocular surface. Also, the modified Bonn pattern handles all of these. Meanwhile, its simple tip makes it a good spare when a special cannula is busy.
Grip and flow control
First, hold the hub between thumb and index finger and rest your hand on the brow. Then start with a low flow and raise it only as needed. In addition, a smaller syringe gives finer steps. Finally, aim the stream away from the endothelium.
Telling the two builds apart
On a busy tray, the two configurations can look alike. Therefore, keep them in labeled slots, or mark the tray map. This saves time when a nurse needs to hand you the delicate one fast.
Bonn cannula reprocessing
Push water through the bore at the end of the case. After that, soak it in a neutral cleaner and rinse again. Then dry the lumen with filtered air. The cannula is sent unsterilized, and both builds withstand routine steam cycles once cleaned.
