Membrane Forceps
Barrier membranes are thin, costly and easy to puncture. Ordinary serrated tissue forceps can tear them or leave marks. These membrane forceps use tips designed for gentle handling, and our supplier catalogue lists three patterns in its membrane instruments section.
Smooth, Paddle or Delicate Ring Tip
- Smooth Tip: non-serrated jaws for picking up a membrane without biting into it.
- Paddle Tip: also non-serrated, with paddle-shaped ends that support a wider area of the sheet.
- Delicate Ring Tip, 10 cm: fine ring-shaped tips on a short 10 cm body, for precise placement in small sites.
Choosing a Tip for the Membrane
Think about the size of the membrane and the space available. For example, a large sheet over a ridge graft is easier to carry with the paddle tip. In contrast, the delicate ring tip suits trimming and final positioning in a single-tooth site. Meanwhile, the smooth tip is a versatile middle option for everyday cases.
Handling Hydrated Material
Many membranes become slippery once wet. So grasp them near an edge, lift them in one motion and set them down without dragging. Also, avoid squeezing hard, because pressure can thin or distort the material.
Protecting the Tips
Fine tips bend if they are dropped or forced. Therefore, store the forceps in a cassette and check that the jaws still meet evenly after each cycle.
Our staff in the United States inspects all membrane forceps for tip alignment before dispatch. Smooth, paddle and ring versions share our pledge of three years against manufacturing defects. Every pair arrives non-sterile and need cleaning and sterilization before use.
Their steel matches ASTM F899 for surgical forceps steel. Explore related tools in our implant and membrane instruments category, and size the sheet before placement with the stepped tip membrane punch. Read the FAQs for ordering help.
