Description
Mead Bone Rongeur Forceps
The Mead bone rongeur is a 15 cm general-purpose nibbler. You can choose standard, round or square jaws to suit the bone you shape.
Three jaw shapes
Standard jaws suit everyday trimming. Meanwhile, round jaws leave a smooth, curved edge. By contrast, square jaws cut a straighter line.
A middle instrument
The Mead is neither very fine nor very heavy. Therefore it handles a wide range of tasks on a single tray. That saves time looking for other rongeurs.
Who uses the Mead bone rongeur
Dental surgeons shape ridges with it. Meanwhile, forefoot and hand teams trim small bones. General orthopedic work suits it too.
Picking a jaw
If you want one rongeur only, choose standard jaws. However, add round or square jaws for special contours. Many surgeons keep two shapes.
Matching shape to result
Think about the edge you want to leave. A rounded edge suits soft tissue cover, whereas a square edge suits a graft seat. Consequently, the jaw choice follows the plan.

Mead upkeep
Brush each jaw shape carefully, since square corners trap debris. Dry the rongeur. Finally, lubricate the joint and test the action.
The support for your rongeur
Before it leaves us, our Atlanta inspector checks the Mead pattern with care. Clinics receive three years against manufacturing defects across every rongeur in all cases. For details on instrument alloys, visit ASTM F899. One extra rongeur in stores avoids delays. Also worth a look is the Schell rongeur. Our questions page explains shipping and refunds.
