McCollum-Dingman Breast Dissector

Description

McCollum-Dingman Breast Dissector

The McCollum-Dingman dissector shapes the breast pocket with a curved, blunt tip. The curve follows the chest wall during dissection.

Two lengths

We offer 30 cm and 41 cm. Furthermore, the short one suits fold incisions. Meanwhile, the long one reaches from distant access points.

Why the McCollum-Dingman dissector

The curved tip keeps the plane even. So the pocket floor stays smooth. Also, the blunt end protects vessels.

Typical use

Augmentation and revision use it. It also helps in capsule work. Additionally, many trays carry both lengths.

Technique

Follow the chest wall with the curve. Sweep in arcs. Then compare both pockets before sizing.

Related patterns

The Agris-Dingman pattern offers left and right versions with mirrored bends. Also, some surgeons use both styles in one practice. Together they cover most chest shapes and incision sites.

Why the curve helps

The chest wall is not flat. Therefore, a straight dissector tends to drift away from it. By contrast, the curved tip stays close to the wall, which keeps the pocket depth even from top to bottom.
