Mayo-Stille Dissecting Scissors

Mayo-Stille scissors are heavy dissecting scissors with a firm cut. They come in four lengths.

Four lengths

The 15 and 17 cm sizes suit general work. Meanwhile, the 19 and 21 cm sizes reach deeper.

Straight or curved

Straight blades suit sutures and fascia. Alternatively, curved blades trace the plane you are opening.

Tungsten carbide option

The 15 and 17 cm sizes also come with tungsten carbide inserts. These keep their edge for longer.

Mayo-Stille or Mayo

Both patterns cut heavy tissue. However, many surgeons find the Mayo-Stille blades slightly finer at the tip. So some trays carry one of each. Then the surgeon picks the pair that suits the tissue. Also, the firm blades cut fascia and muscle without chattering. Therefore the pattern suits general, orthopaedic and gynecologic trays alike.

Cleaning Mayo-Stille scissors

Rinse off blood before it dries in the joint. Next, brush the cutting edges and dry fully. Then store the scissors closed.
