The Lucas bone curette is a 15 cm surgical curette with a sharp, spoon-shaped cup. It is widely used to debride extraction sockets and small bone cavities.

Built for sockets

The cup scrapes away granulation tissue and debris. As a result, the socket walls are left free of debris before healing begins. Light strokes are usually enough.

Oral surgeons and dentists use it after extractions. It also helps with small cysts. Hand and foot surgeons sometimes use it on small bones too.

Choosing figures

For general extraction work, figures 1 and 2 cover most needs. However, add 3 and 4 when sockets are larger or angled. A full set gives the most options.

Gentle technique

Sockets heal better when the walls are not over-scraped. So use the curette to remove soft tissue, not healthy bone. Light pressure is usually all you need.

After use

Rinse the cup right away so tissue does not dry. Then brush, wash and dry it. Check the rim before each sterilization.
