Description
Lister-Burch Eye Speculum
Our lister-burch eye speculum spreads the upper and lower lids and keeps them there, so you can focus on the eye itself. It comes in one 8cm size. In practice, that size suits most adult work at the front of the eye.
What the Lister-Burch does in the field
A speculum has one main job: it keeps the lids from closing while you operate or examine. The Lister-Burch does this with two blades on a spring frame. Because the tension stays steady, the lids stay put with no extra pair of hands. That frees a pair of hands for other tasks.
Who gets the most from an 8cm frame
The 8cm size works for a typical adult fissure. However, it may feel large on a child or on a small, tight eye. For those cases, a shorter frame is the safer choice. We list several in our range, so you can build a small set that covers each patient group.
Points to watch with this speculum
- Seat the blades under the lid margins, not on the lashes.
- Watch the cornea as you open the frame.
- Release the tension before you lift the blades out.
- Look over the spring and blades after each cycle.
Cleaning the Lister-Burch between cases
First, rinse the speculum in cool water to lift off protein. Then wash it using a neutral detergent and a soft brush. Rinse again and dry it well. The item ships non-sterile, so it needs a full sterilization cycle before its first case. After that, it is reusable for many cases.
Warranty and further Lister-Burch info
Any Lister-Burch frame that fails in build is backed for three years against manufacturing defects; Lister-Burch claims go straight to our team. The steel matches the ASTM F899 spec for surgical stainless. To see related items, open our ophthalmology section or the Lancaster eye speculum. Still unsure? Our help page lists common questions.
