Description
Lancaster Eye Speculum
The lancaster eye speculum is a long-standing lid speculum that many eye surgeons learned on. Ours comes in an 8cm size for adult work. Its blades keep both lids back, so the cornea and limbus stay in plain view.
Lancaster speculum in the cataract room
Most often, you will see this pattern in cataract and other anterior segment cases. It also suits corneal and conjunctival work. Because the frame holds its spread, you can set it once and leave it. Then you can turn your full focus to the incision.
Sizing the Lancaster for adult lids
This item comes in one 8cm size. That covers a typical adult fissure well. For deep-set eyes or narrow lids, you may want a smaller frame on standby. Likewise, keep a pediatric pattern nearby if you treat children on the same list.
Good habits with a Lancaster frame
- Open the frame only as far as the case needs.
- Keep the blades clear of the cornea when you insert them.
- Close the frame before removal to protect the lids.
- Check the blades for nicks during each tray set-up.
Lancaster cleaning and storage
Rinse the speculum right after use, while debris is still soft. Next, wash and brush it, then rinse and dry it. Lancaster frames arrive non-sterile, so sterilize the Lancaster before the first case and after every use. Store it so the blades do not knock against heavier tools.
How we back the Lancaster speculum
This speculum is covered for three years against manufacturing defects, which covers flaws in steel and build. We use stainless steel in line with ASTM F899. Our eye instrument collection has many more patterns, such as the Knapp-Clark speculum. For returns and orders, our FAQ is a good start.
For trained professionals only. See how to clean and sterilize it and when it will arrive.
