Description
Lane Towel Forceps
The Lane towel forceps are large forceps for heavy drapes in major surgery. At 20 cm, they give a firm grip on thick layers of cloth and paper.
A large size
Twenty centimetres gives plenty of leverage. Therefore, the forceps close firmly through several drape layers that would defeat a small clip.
Uses of the Lane towel forceps
Teams use them to hold heavy drapes and towels around large fields, such as in abdominal, spinal and orthopaedic surgery. They also anchor thick cables and suction lines.
Placing them
Gather the layers into a firm fold, then close the forceps until the ratchet locks. Afterwards, check that the points have passed right through.
Skin safety
Large points can injure skin if it is caught. For that reason, keep the skin clear unless skin fixation is deliberately intended.
Heavy drapes need heavy forceps
Orthopaedic drapes often include extra impervious layers. Consequently, a large forceps like the Lane holds them where smaller clips slip.
Stocking
Major trays often carry four to six Lane forceps. In practice, they hold the corners and the heaviest cables.
