This lacrimal cannula with syringe adapter has a blunt tip and an adapter that fits a standard syringe. It comes in four edge types: angled, short angled, curved and straight. So you can match the shape to the patient and to your approach.

Four shapes and when to use them

The straight shape gives direct access along the canaliculus. The curved shape follows a gentle arc, which some users find more natural. Meanwhile, the angled shape turns at a set point, and the short angled form turns closer to the tip for tight spaces. Pick the one that fits your hand. Options:

The syringe adapter

A secure adapter keeps the cannula from slipping off under pressure. As a result, you can push saline with steady force and less leakage. This helps when you test a duct with some resistance.

Irrigation technique

Dilate the punctum if needed. Next, pull the lid outward and slide the blunt tip into the canaliculus. Then inject slowly and note any reflux. If the patient tastes saline, the system is open.

Building a lacrimal set

Many clinics stock two shapes, often a straight and an angled one. Then they add a short angled form for small or tight puncta. This mix covers most routine syringing.

Cleaning the adapter and tube

Saline crystals can lodge in the adapter. So flush the tube and rinse the adapter right after use. Next, soak, rinse and dry it. Since each shape is sent non-sterile, autoclave it before first use and between patients.
