Description
Anel Lachrymal Eye Cannula
The Anel lacrimal cannula is a classic blunt cannula for syringing the tear drainage system. It comes in two edge types: curved and straight. Anel’s name has been tied to lacrimal irrigation for a very long time.
Curved or straight Anel tip
A straight tip gives a direct line along the horizontal canaliculus. In contrast, a curved tip can make it easier to follow the turn from the vertical to the horizontal part. So pick straight for simple access, and curved if you prefer a natural bend. Options:
- Edge type: curved
- Edge type: straight
- Blunt lacrimal tip on both
- Syringe hub
When to syringe the tear ducts
Lacrimal irrigation helps assess watery eyes and possible blockage. It can also flush debris from the canaliculus. However, it is a test as much as a treatment, so record what you find each time.
Syringing with the Anel
First, dilate the punctum if needed. Then pull the lid outward to straighten the canaliculus and slide the tip in. Next, inject saline slowly. Also, watch for reflux, and ask whether the patient tastes fluid.
Comparing lacrimal cannulas
The Anel lacrimal cannula offers two shapes. Meanwhile, the syringe adapter cannula offers four, including short angled. Choose the Anel for a classic, simple tool with a choice of curve.
Cleaning after syringing
Flush the tube with water as soon as you finish. Then soak it in a mild cleaner and rinse. Dry the bore with air. The Anel cannula comes unsterilized, so put it through steam before its first use and again between patients.
