Description
Kocher (Ochsner) Artery Forceps
Kocher Ochsner forceps are artery forceps with transverse serrations and 1:2 interlocking teeth at the tip. The teeth grip tough tissue firmly.
Standard pattern
Standard sizes cover 14 through 30 cm. That wide spread lets you pick a clamp for every depth.
Delicate pattern
The delicate pattern comes in 13, 14 and 16 cm. It has slimmer jaws for finer handling.
Why the teeth matter
Teeth hold fascia and dense tissue that would slip from a smooth jaw. However, they can damage delicate tissue, so surgeons keep them for firm structures.
Where surgeons use it
Kocher forceps grasp fascia during abdominal closure and hold tissue for traction. In addition, they clamp dense pedicles in gynaecology. Because the teeth interlock, the tips stay aligned under load. Also, the long sizes reach into the pelvis without an extension.
Looking after Kocher Ochsner forceps
Clean between the teeth with a fine brush after each case. Next, rinse and dry the forceps. Finally, check that the teeth still mesh neatly when closed.
