Description
Kirby-Artur Fixation Forceps, 1 x 2 Teeth
The Kirby-Artur fixation forceps measures 9 cm and carries 1 x 2 teeth at 0.2 mm. That tooth size sits a step above the finest 0.12 mm forceps. So it grips a little more tissue and holds the globe with extra security.
0.2 mm or 0.12 mm?
Finer teeth take less tissue, which suits delicate corneal work. However, slightly larger 0.2 mm teeth resist slipping on firm sclera or tough conjunctiva. Many surgeons keep one of each size.
- 9 cm length
- 1 x 2 teeth
- 0.2 mm tooth size
- Firm globe fixation
Fixing the globe
Grasp the tissue near the limbus, then hold the eye against the blade’s push. As a result, the incision runs clean. Release slowly once the step ends, so the eye returns to rest.
A 9 cm handle
At 9 cm, the forceps balances well in a pen grip. Also, it stays short enough to move freely between the lids. Then you can switch from fixation to wound handling quickly.
Matching other tools
It pairs well with a fine needle holder and a tying forceps. In addition, it can stand in for a heavier fixation forceps in many cases. Still, choose the tool that suits the tissue you meet.
Caring for the teeth
Rinse the tip soon after use. Next, brush it gently and dry it. Finally, check the teeth under magnification, because a bent tooth may tear tissue on the next case.
Kirby-Artur supply and cover
It ships non-sterile and is reusable once reprocessed. Each Kirby forceps carries three years against manufacturing defects. Kirby tips draw on stainless that meets ASTM F899.
