Kevorkian-Younge Endocervical Biopsy Forceps
Kevorkian-Younge biopsy forceps take tissue samples from inside the endocervical canal. A slim 22 cm shaft carries a narrow jaw that fits the canal, and a latch keeps the jaw shut while you withdraw it. As a result, the specimen comes out intact and ready for the pathology pot.
Built for the canal, not just the surface
Most punch forceps bite the outer cervix. By contrast, this pattern is shaped to enter the os and sample above it. That makes it useful when a colposcopy is unsatisfactory or when the lesion runs up into the canal.
The jaw and the latch
The jaw measures 3 by 9.5 mm, so it takes a long, narrow strip of tissue. Once you close the handles, the latch holds the bite. Then you can rotate and draw the forceps out without the jaw opening. Release the latch over the specimen container to drop the sample.
Using Kevorkian-Younge biopsy forceps
First, place a speculum and identify the os. Next, pass the closed jaw gently into the canal. Open it, close it on the tissue and lock the latch. Finally, withdraw in one smooth movement and transfer the specimen straight away.
Cleaning and reprocessing
Flush the jaw and hinge soon after the procedure, because dried tissue lodges in the latch. Then scrub the cups gently and let everything air-dry before you sterilize with the jaw open.
