Jaeger Hook

Description

Jaeger Hook

The jaeger hook is a curved eye hook for lifting and holding tissue. Many surgeons use the Jaeger pattern in strabismus work to pick up an eye muscle. We offer it in one pattern, ready for your muscle or general eye set.

Jaeger and muscle surgery

In strabismus cases, you often need to slide a hook under a muscle and lift it into view. A smooth, curved hook does this without tearing the tissue. So the Jaeger can sit in a muscle set beside other hooks. Then you pick the size and curve that suits each step.

Jaeger beside other muscle hooks

Muscle hooks come in many patterns, such as Graefe, Green and Jameson. Each one also has its own curve and tip. However, you do not need every one. Most surgeons settle on two or three hooks they trust and use them case after case. If the Jaeger curve suits your hand, it can be one of them.

Using the Jaeger with care

• Slide the hook under tissue with a sweeping motion.
• Lift slowly and check the view.
• Keep pressure light to avoid tearing.
• Inspect the curve and tip after use.

Looking after a muscle hook

Clear the curve under cool water the moment the case ends. Next, brush the inner bend, where muscle fibre and blood tend to stick. Rinse, dry and look along the shaft for any kink. This muscle hook comes to you non-sterile, so one full cycle in your autoclave is the first step. After that, it joins your strabismus set for the long run.

Warranty on this muscle hook

This strabismus tool is backed for three years against manufacturing defects, with Jaeger curves and tips covered. Also, our steel follows ASTM F899. See all ophthalmic hooks, or try the Green hooklets. Our help FAQs cover the rest.
