The Iterson trachea retractor is a tracheal hook for tracheostomy and neck surgery. Surgeons use it to draw tissue aside or to hold the trachea steady.

Built for reach

This hook measures 17 cm, so it reaches the trachea in deeper necks while the hand stays clear. That length also leaves room for a second instrument beside it.

Blunt or sharp

We sell two versions: Blunt and Sharp. The blunt end slides under tissue gently. Meanwhile, the sharp end grips the tracheal wall so it cannot slip away.

In the procedure

The assistant usually holds this hook while the surgeon opens the trachea. Then the tube goes in, and the hook comes out. A steady hold makes each of those steps smoother.

Choosing a tip

If your team mostly retracts soft tissue, start with the blunt version. However, if you want to fix the trachea itself, the sharp version is the usual choice. Plenty of trays carry both.

Scrub the curve of the hook right after use, since residue collects there. Also rinse the handle and check the tip shape. Dry the retractor completely, then sterilize it.
