Hurst Reflex Hammer

The Hurst reflex hammer sets a double faced head across a solid, round handle, 25 cm long. As a result, it feels heavier than a flat handled hammer, which helps when you want a firm, even blow on large tendons.

Where it fits

In particular, use it for the knee and ankle jerks, where a little extra mass brings out a reflex that a light hammer may miss. Because both faces match, you can strike with either side and keep your rhythm. In addition, the round handle rolls comfortably between the fingers, so you can adjust your grip during the exam.

Compared with the Taylor pattern, this hammer asks for less wrist speed. Meanwhile, it stays shorter than a Queen Square hammer, so it fits a coat pocket more easily. If you want sensory tools in the handle, look at the Buck or Dejerine instead.

Care

Clean the head and handle after every patient using a neutral detergent. After that, rinse, dry, and store the hammer away from sharp instruments.
