House Suction Tube

The House suction tube is a fine suction instrument for ear surgery. Otologists use it to keep the field clear of blood and fluid while they work under the microscope.

Why fine suction matters

Middle ear structures are tiny, so even a drop of blood can hide them. A narrow suction tip removes that fluid without disturbing nearby tissue. Therefore, surgeons often hold suction in one hand and a micro instrument in the other.

Seventeen sizes

We offer ten single diameters: 0.6, 0.8, 1, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2, 2.2, 2.5 and 3 mm. Next, there are seven dual sizes, listed as 0.9+0.7, 1.2+0.9, 1.5+1.2, 1.8+1.8, 2.5+2, 3+2 and 4.5+2 mm. Ask us how each paired figure maps to the tube if that helps.

In the otology set

Surgeons use the smallest tips near the ossicles and the oval window. Meanwhile, the larger tips clear the canal and the mastoid cavity quickly. Most sets therefore carry a spread of three or four diameters.

Selecting diameters

First, list the procedures you perform most often. Then pick one fine, one medium and one larger tip for each. If you do stapes work, include a size under 1 mm as well, since the oval window area needs the gentlest touch.

Caring for your House suction tube

Flush water through the tube straight after surgery, before blood can clot inside. Next, pass a cleaning wire of the right size through the lumen. Finally, dry the bore completely and sterilize the tube.
