House Stapes Mobilizer

The House stapes mobilizer is a fine otology instrument for work on the stapes. Surgeons use it to apply gentle, controlled pressure to the stapes and the surrounding ossicular chain.

Background

Before stapedectomy became routine, surgeons tried to free a fixed stapes by moving it. That technique gave its name to mobilizers. Today, surgeons still use such tools to test and handle the ossicles.

Four sizes

We offer 3.5 mm, 4 mm, 4.5 mm and 5 mm sizes. Since the sizes step up in half millimeters, you can match the tool to the anatomy. Please contact us if you need to confirm which dimension the size describes.

Role in ear surgery

Surgeons may check the mobility of the ossicles before deciding on a repair. Then they choose whether to replace the stapes or rebuild the chain. A mobilizer helps with that assessment.

Choosing a size

If you are unsure, start with the two middle sizes. Then add 3.5 or 5 mm as your cases require. We are happy to discuss your usual procedures.

Caring for your House stapes mobilizer

Clean the working end with a soft brush after each case. Next, rinse and dry it carefully. Finally, autoclave it in a rack where the tip hangs free.
